Updated October 17, 2022

Creating a website is hard work. But once you have a beautiful website up and running, the real fun begins: analyzing your traffic data! Google Analytics is a free service that allows you to track your website's traffic and activity. And the best part is that it integrates seamlessly with your WordPress website, and even easier with Breakdance!

In this article, we'll show you how to install Google Analytics on your Breakdance WordPress website. We'll also give you a few tips on how to get the most out of your traffic data.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free service that provides website owners with detailed statistics about their website's traffic and activity. This information can be used to track things like how many people visit your site, where they come from, what pages they view, and how long they stay on your site.

Google Analytics can also be used to track conversions (sales or leads that are generated from your website), which makes it an invaluable tool for understanding your website's effectiveness at generating business.

Google Analytics is a free service that is used by millions of website owners. It's easy to set up and use, and it provides a wealth of information that can be used to improve your website.

Use Google Analytics in Breakdance with Google Site Kit

The easiest way to install Google Analytics in WordPress is through the Google Site Kit plugin. This plugin is developed by Google and it lets you easily install and manage multiple Google products on your WordPress site, including Analytics.

To get started, first, you need to install and activate the Google Site Kit plugin. Go to Plugins -> Add New in your WordPress admin area and search for Google Site Kit.

Once the plugin is installed and activated, you need to connect it to your Google account. Go to Site Kit -> Settings and click on the Connect button.

You will be redirected to the Google login page where you need to enter your Google credentials. After logging in, you will be asked to allow Site Kit to access your data. Click on the Allow button to continue.

Now you need to select the products that you want to connect to your WordPress site. Select Analytics and click on the Continue button. Follow the remaining instructions and now Site Kit should be successfully configured with Google Analytics.

If you don't want to install another plugin, you can manually install Google Analytics quite easily in Breakdance.

Install Google Analytics in Breakdance through Settings

If you don't want to add an additional plugin to your site, then you can add Google Analytics to WordPress through the settings within Breakdance. This takes a little more time to set up, but it's just as effective as using a plugin.

Create a Google Analytics Account

The first thing you need to do is create a Google Analytics account. You can do this by going to the Google Analytics website and clicking on the "Sign Up" button. Once you've created an account you'll need to add your website to it.

To do this, click on the "Admin" tab at the top of the page. Then, in the "Property" column, click on "Create new property". This will bring up a form where you'll need to enter your website's URL and name.

Create a Google Analytics Property Tag

Once you've set up your account and added your website, you'll need to create a Google Analytics property tag. This is a snippet of code that you'll need to add to your website in order to collect traffic data.

You should already be on the screen to create a web stream. If not, in your Google Analytics account go to "Admin -> Property -> Data Streams -> Web", and click on the "+ New Data Stream" button. Once creating your stream, scroll down to "View Tag Instructions" and copy the code snippet. It will look something like this:

<!-- Google tag (gtag.js) -->
<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-YOURSITEID"></script>
<script>
  window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
  function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
  gtag('js', new Date());

  gtag('config', 'G-YOURSITEID');
</script>

Add Analytics Code Snippet in Breakdance

Once you've copied the Analytics code snippet, you'll need to add it to your Breakdance site. To do this go to your Admin Panel and click on the "Breakdance -> Settings" link. Inside the plugin settings, go to Custom Code. Inside here is where you'll paste the tag you just copied in the header code. We're putting this code in the header code because we want to make sure it loads on every page of your site. Paste your code here, save it, and you should be good to go!

Conclusion

Google Analytics is the easiest way to track your website traffic and it's essential for any site owner who wants to improve their website. While adding the code manually is a little more work, it's still quite simple and only takes a few minutes. If you use WordPress, we recommend using the Google Site Kit plugin as it makes things a lot easier. Either way, once you've set up your Google Analytics account you'll be able to see how people are finding and using your site which will help you make better decisions about your content and website design.
