Elon Musk just announced his new artificial intelligence venture, xAI, to rival OpenAI.

Ironically, he co-founded OpenAI, together with Sam Altman. The competition goes on and might get heated, after Musk called ChatGPT too woke and wants xAI to be “maximum truth-seeking."

On July 12, Musk announced on Twitter, that the rumors around xAI are true. After records of him incorporating the company and buying CPUs in march, he tweeted:

The team around xAI consists of big names in the AI industry. Former DeepMind, Tesla and Microsoft employees joined Musk on his mission, he describes on the website as "to understand the true nature of the universe."

Besides names like Igor Babuschkin, specifically one more member is mentioned as an advisor, Dan Hendrycks. He currently is the director for the Center of AI Safety.

That makes sense, since Elon Musk publicly criticized the rapid development of AI and tried to highlight the risk that comes with it.

He signed two open letters with the goal to pause AI development to guarantee a safe progress. Hendrycks was the one behind that letter, warning about risks associated with AI.

For those of you who want more details, xAI promoted an open call on their website. On July 14, you can ask questions in the Twitter Spaces Chat and meet the team behind this ambitiously unique idea.
