AI image generation isn’t slowing down — and neither is the demand for tools that can tell what’s real and what’s synthetic. From social media posts to product photos, AI-generated images are everywhere, and the stakes for spotting them are only getting higher.
This gave birth to detection tools like TruthScan and Hive Moderation. Both claim to help you cut through the noise and figure out if an image is authentic or machine-made. But how do they actually stack up against each other?
Let’s break it down.
What is TruthScan?
TruthScan is one of the newer AI detection platforms designed specifically for AI-generated content. Instead of just spitting out a “yes/no” answer, it provides a percentage score showing how confident it is that a piece of media is AI-generated.

The tool focuses on accuracy and transparency. It doesn’t just give a vague result — you get detailed reports that explain why it flagged an image as AI. That extra context matters if you’re dealing with situations where credibility is on the line, like journalism, academic research, or brand reputation management.
We’ve reviewed TruthScan in detail before, and the results show that it’s highly consistent — so much so that I’ve since integrated it into my daily toolkit.
What is Hive Moderation?
Hive Moderation, on the other hand, is a multi-purpose platform. It originally focused on content moderation — filtering things like nudity, violence, or disallowed content for social media platforms and businesses. Over time, Hive expanded its suite of tools, and AI image detection became part of that offering.

That broader approach has its pros and cons. On one hand, Hive brings serious infrastructure and scalability — it’s used by some big tech names and can process massive volumes of data.
On the other hand, because detection is just one feature among many, it sometimes feels less specialized compared to a platform like TruthScan that lives and breathes image detection.

The Bottom Line
After running the tests, the results were clear: Hive Moderation averaged 95.57% correctness, while TruthScan came in at 94.14%. Hive edged out the win here.
That said, both tools performed at an impressively high level, well above what most casual users might expect. Hive showed why it’s a trusted moderation platform, with solid detection accuracy to match its broader suite of tools.
TruthScan, meanwhile, proved that even as a newer platform, it’s already competitive with one of the bigger names in the space.
If your needs go beyond AI detection into full-scale moderation, Hive is the obvious choice. But if you’re looking for a tool purpose-built for all kinds of AI detection only — and one that’s continuing to improve — TruthScan deserves a lot of credit for being right there in the same league.
Both are strong, reliable options. TruthScan’s specialization makes it especially promising for the long term, even if Hive narrowly won this round.
