TruthScan vs MyDetector.ai: Accuracy, Features, and Limitations
If you’re trying to choose an AI detector for serious use, don’t start with the marketing claims. Start with how results are produced, explained, and stored. This is TruthScan vs. MyDetector.ai.

AI detection tools have split into two camps.
One group is built for speed and convenience — paste text, get a score, move on. The other is built for teams that can’t afford casual mistakes: compliance workflows, audit trails, batch processing, and detection across more than one media type.
TruthScan and MyDetector.ai sit on opposite ends of that spectrum.
MyDetector.ai positions itself as a free, no-login AI checker for common models like ChatGPT, GPT-5.2, Gemini, and Claude, and AI image generators like Midjourney and Adobe Firefly.
TruthScan positions itself as an enterprise-grade, multi-modal detection platform across text, images, voice, and video — with workflow tooling that looks designed for organizations, not one-off checks.
This comparison focuses on three things educators and teams actually care about:
- whether the tool is built for trustworthy decisions, not just curiosity
- what features exist beyond “AI or not”
- where each platform realistically falls short
I’ll also leave space for my own accuracy testing, because detection claims are easy to make and harder to verify.
What is TruthScan?
TruthScan is a multi-modal AI detection platform built to analyze text, images, voice, and video with centralized reporting and enterprise workflow support.

The product pages emphasize “enterprise standard” detection for deepfakes and AI-generated content, plus features like a history dashboard, heatmaps, and fast processing designed for throughput.
TruthScan also leans heavily into operational credibility: it explicitly mentions enterprise security (including SOC 2 Type II) and bank-level encryption.
This positioning matters. A detector isn’t just a model — it’s also how results are stored, explained, and acted on. TruthScan is built for that end-to-end workflow.
What is MyDetector.ai?
MyDetector.ai is a web-based AI content detection platform that markets itself as a free AI detector that can analyze outputs from major models (ChatGPT, GPT, Gemini, Claude).

It’s also broader than just detection. The site includes tools like:
- an AI writing detector with selectable model versions
- a plagiarism checker that generates a similarity report
- an AI code detector
- an AI humanizer (which also claims bypassing other detectors)
That mix is useful for general users, but it also signals something important: MyDetector.ai is positioned more like an “all-in-one content utility” than a dedicated, specialized detection platform.
For casual checks, that’s fine. For higher-stakes decisions, the trade-offs matter.
Feature comparison that actually matters
Detection Scope
TruthScan is explicitly multi-modal. It offers detection across text, images, voice, and video, and it treats credits as a shared currency across those modalities.
MyDetector.ai is primarily text- and image-focused in its core messaging, with additional utilities layered on (plagiarism, grammar, code analysis, humanizer).
If your environment involves more than essays — think screenshots, edited images, AI voice clips, or recorded media — TruthScan is simply playing a different game.
Workflow features
TruthScan highlights enterprise workflow features: detection heatmaps, a full history dashboard, batch processing, and real-time analysis.
MyDetector.ai emphasizes ease of use: instant results, free access, and high character limits for pasted text on its detector page.
This is the core philosophical difference:
- MyDetector.ai is optimized for checking.
- TruthScan is optimized for handling detection in real systems.
If you ever need to explain “why we flagged this” or maintain records for review, TruthScan’s design is more aligned with that reality.
Depth of analysis
TruthScan’s text detector page emphasizes sentence-level detection and paraphrasing detection, claiming it can detect AI text even after it’s been rewritten or humanized, and it offers granular analysis by sentence/paragraph.
MyDetector.ai’s writing detector presents model versions and produces a “detection report,” but its public-facing pages are lighter on methodological detail and lean more on convenience and breadth.
This isn’t a guarantee that TruthScan is more accurate. But it is a signal that it’s built to handle the messy reality of modern AI writing—where text is edited, rewritten, and blended.

Conclusion
MyDetector.ai is convenient. It’s broad, accessible, and frictionless—especially if you just need a quick “does this look AI-ish?” scan. For casual use, that’s often enough.
But once accuracy becomes the priority, the gap shows up quickly.
In my testing, TruthScan landed at 97% accuracy, while MyDetector.ai came in at 78.39%. That difference isn’t cosmetic. It changes how much confidence you can responsibly place on the result—especially in a workplace, catching deepfakes in social media, or anywhere a false call creates real consequences.
TruthScan also has the more defensible platform design: multi-format support, workflow tooling, and analysis that’s meant to scale beyond one-off checks. MyDetector.ai, by contrast, feels more like a general-purpose utility suite—useful, but not something I’d anchor high-stakes decisions on.
If you’re choosing one tool to rely on, TruthScan is the safer bet.
