Gold Penguin LLC ("Gold Penguin," "we," "us," or "our") provides Teleprompto, a teleprompter app for iPhone, iPad and Mac (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use it.
Privacy at a glance
Teleprompto has no account, no server of ours, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no crash reporting. We never receive your scripts, your recordings, your voice or anything about how you use the App, and we do not sell data or track you across apps or websites.
What we collect
Nothing. Gold Penguin does not collect any personal information through Teleprompto.
What stays on your device
- Scripts. Your scripts are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, they sync between your own devices through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit). That data is stored by Apple in your iCloud account; we cannot see or access it. You can turn this off by turning off iCloud for Teleprompto in your device's settings.
- Free-minutes count. The number of free recording and voice minutes you have used this month is stored on your device and in your iCloud key-value storage, so it carries across your devices. It is a number, not a record of what you did.
- Recordings (takes). Video and audio you record are saved on your device with their script. They go to your Photos library or anywhere else only when you choose to save or share them.
- Audio for voice scrolling. Voice pace and voice follow analyze the microphone signal on your device, in real time, to scroll the script. Your voice is never turned into text, never stored for this purpose, and never uploaded.
- Script tools and translation. Script tools use Apple's on-device language model, and translation uses Apple's on-device translation. Your text is processed on your device. If a translation language is not installed yet, iOS or macOS downloads it from Apple; no script text is sent with that download.
- Rehearsal history and settings. Rehearsal stats and your preferences are stored on your device only.
Deleting the App deletes everything it stored on that device. Scripts in iCloud can be removed in the App or in your device's iCloud storage settings.
The internet
Teleprompto works offline. It connects to the internet only for these things:
- iCloud sync of your scripts and your free-minutes count, handled by Apple as described above.
- Purchases through the App Store, handled by Apple.
- Importing a Google Docs link that you paste or share into the App. The App then downloads that document's text directly from Google, which receives the request like any website does and is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Links you tap (for example to this page), which open in your browser.
Using another device as a remote
When you use a second iPhone or iPad as a remote, the two devices talk to each other directly over your local network or peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, through an encrypted connection protected by a pairing code. Nothing passes through our servers or leaves your local network.
Purchases
Teleprompto Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your name, payment details or Apple Account information. The App checks your purchase on your device with Apple's StoreKit.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record the sound of your takes and to scroll the script with your voice.
- Camera: to show you while you read and to record your takes.
- Photos (add only): to save a take to your Photos library when you choose to.
- Local Network: to find your other iPhone or iPad when you use one as a remote.
You can change these at any time in your device's settings. Teleprompto does not request the Speech Recognition permission.
Children
Teleprompto does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us in a support request, contact us and we will delete it.
Support requests
If you email us, we use the information you choose to send only to reply to you. This policy covers the Teleprompto app; a visit to goldpenguin.org is subject to the Gold Penguin website privacy policy.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here and update the effective date.
