Gold Penguin LLC ("Gold Penguin," "we," "us," or "our") provides the Parky iOS application ("Parky" or the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Parky.
Privacy at a glance
Parky does not require a Parky account. We do not operate an advertising, analytics, or user-profile service for the App, and we do not sell or use App data for cross-app tracking. Your passport data is kept on your device and, when iCloud is available for Parky, in your private iCloud database.
Information stored by Parky
Parky stores the information needed to provide its features, including:
- parks you save or mark as visited;
- visit dates and optional ratings and notes;
- passport stamps and app preferences, such as home country, measurement units, and stamp style; and
- park photos cached for offline use when available.
This information is stored locally on your device. When you are signed in to iCloud and iCloud is available for Parky, visits and saved parks also sync through your private Apple CloudKit database so they can appear on your other devices. Parky uses Apple's iCloud key-value store to sync your measurement-units and description-translation preferences. Your home-country selection and onboarding state remain device-local. Gold Penguin does not operate a Parky account database and does not have access to the contents of your private iCloud database.
Backups and sharing you initiate
If you export a backup, Parky creates a file that can include your visits, notes, ratings, and saved parks. You choose where that file is saved or shared using Apple's system interface. Parky does not receive a copy. When you share a stamp or passport card, the destination you select through the iOS share sheet controls the shared copy.
Network services and external content
Parky uses Apple Maps to display maps and directions. It requests park images hosted by Wikimedia Commons and may offer links you choose to open to Wikipedia, park authorities, or other external websites. Park descriptions and source information are bundled with the App rather than fetched each time a park is opened.
Those external services may receive ordinary network information, such as your IP address and request details, and handle it under their own terms and privacy policies. Parky does not send them your visit history, ratings, notes, saved parks, or preferences.
Where supported, Parky can use Apple's Translation framework to translate a bundled park description into your device language. Translation uses Apple's on-device language models. iOS may download a required language model after asking for permission. Parky does not send the description to a Gold Penguin server or receive the translated text.
Retention, control, and deletion
Your passport data remains on your device until you edit or delete it or remove the App. When iCloud sync is active, deleting a visit or saved park also syncs that deletion through your private iCloud database. Removing Parky from one device does not by itself remove data stored in iCloud or on your other devices. Apple provides controls for iCloud data through your Apple Account settings. Because we do not operate a Parky user database, we cannot retrieve or delete that private data on your behalf.
Children's privacy
Parky is not designed to collect personal information from children. It has no user accounts, social messaging, behavioral advertising, or tracking. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us through a support request, please contact us so we can address it.
This website
This policy describes the Parky app. A visit to goldpenguin.org is separately subject to the Gold Penguin website privacy policy. If you contact support, we use the information you choose to provide to respond to your request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Parky's features or legal obligations change. We will update the effective date above, and material changes to data handling will also be reflected in the App Store privacy disclosures.
