Best Articulation Apps for Kids in 2026

An articulation app has one job: give a child many correct tries at a target sound, at the right level, and help an adult see whether it's getting better. The good ones let you choose the sound and its position in the word, move from words to sentences to conversation, and record or score each attempt. Plenty of "speech apps" do none of that, and a few well-known ones changed a lot in the past year.

We compared the articulation apps parents and SLPs shortlist, from each developer's site and app store listing, checked October 2026. Our pick is Speech Therapy Magic, because it's the only one here that scores each sound automatically and runs on any device with a browser.

Here's the TLDR (prices checked October 2026):

  1. Speech Therapy Magic (our pick): Best for home practice with automatic sound-by-sound feedback on any device. $9.99/month or $79.99/year.
  2. Articulation Station Hive: Best for the most complete articulation hierarchy, isolation to conversation, on Apple devices. Parent from $7/month; Pro from $10/month (yearly).
  3. Articulate Plus: Best for SLPs who want a one-time purchase with video models and IEP-ready data. $49.99 once.
  4. Score 4 Articulation: Best for cheap, high-repetition practice on R, S, L and other later sounds. Free SH; sounds from $2.99.
  5. Articulation Teacher: Best for parents of young children who want coaching videos. Free B sound; $29.99/year.
  6. Apraxia Farm (Smarty Ears): Best for childhood apraxia of speech. $34.99 iPad app or inside Smarty Ears Online.

What changed in 2026

If you remember the free Articulation Station app with per-sound purchases, it's gone. Little Bee Speech says the Classic app "is no longer available for purchase, supported, or updated," and Articulation Station Hive is "only available through a monthly or yearly Little Bee Hive membership." Smarty Ears' current articulation app is Articulate Plus, which had a redesign this year. We left out apps that haven't been updated in years.

1. Speech Therapy Magic

Speech Therapy Magic's pronunciation practice is the closest thing here to an app that listens. The child picks a sound and a word sorted by position and difficulty, taps the mic, says it, and gets a 0 to 100 score with each sound broken out: which one slipped, what it sounded like instead (/r/ heard as /w/, say) and a tip in plain language. Every attempt is logged by sound and position, so the progress chart shows a trend rather than one try. It scores the consonant sounds and 30 blends, and its word bank holds more than 9,000 words across all 40 English sounds, with minimal pairs.

Around the drill it adds articulation games, illustrated stories loaded with the target sound, printable drill sheets and Magic Studio decks an SLP can send home by PIN. It was developed with a licensed SLP, Lori B. Levy, M.A., CCC-SLP, and runs in any browser.

Pricing: $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year after a 7-day trial with no card, with 3 student profiles (extras $4.99 a month, up to 10) and 5,000 scored attempts a month, per its pricing page.

Limits: its own accuracy benchmark says distortions such as a lateral /s/ or a partly rhotic /r/ are often scored as correct and most individual error flags are wrong, so it can't stand in for an SLP's ear. Vowels aren't scored. It has no isolation or conversation levels like Articulation Station's, no free plan and no native app yet. More in our Speech Therapy Magic review.

Pick it if: your child practices at home when nobody trained is listening, or you need it to work on a Chromebook or Android tablet.

2. Articulation Station Hive

Articulation Station Hive is the most complete program here. It follows seven levels (isolation, syllables, words, phrases, sentences, stories and conversation) across consonants, vowels and initial, medial and final clusters, with phonological process pairs for fronting, backing, cluster reduction and more. The words level alone has "over 7,500 minimal pairs" and more than 2,000 photo flashcards. Recording and playback are part of every activity, and scoring (correct, approximate, incorrect) is available everywhere, with graphs per sound you can share with parents.

Pricing: per Little Bee Speech's pricing page, Parent is $10 a month or $7 a month billed yearly, limited to 2 students. Pro is $15 a month or $10 a month billed yearly, with unlimited students, group sessions of up to 6 and the Articulation Test Center Hive assessment app. There's a 14-day trial. App Store prices are a little different. It's rated 4.5 from 633 ratings on the App Store (October 2026).

Limits: iPhone, iPad, Apple-silicon Macs and Vision Pro only, with no Android or web. Subscription only, one device at a time, and an adult judges every response.

Pick it if: you're an SLP, or a parent guided by one, working through a full hierarchy on an iPad. We compared it head to head in Speech Blubs vs Articulation Station vs Speech Therapy Magic.

3. Articulate Plus

Articulate Plus is Smarty Ears' articulation app, from the company founded by SLP Barbara Fernandes. It has four ways to practice (FlashCards, Matching, Stories and Guess What), a video model for every target word with real actors, and levels from single words to sentences to sound-loaded stories. Sounds are grouped as early, middle and late, and you can filter by phonological process, manner and syllable count. The data side tracks accuracy by sound, level and position, has a milestones tracker and exports reports for IEP meetings. It supports unlimited profiles and groups of up to 6.

Pricing: $49.99 once, with no in-app purchases, per its App Store listing.

Limits: iPhone and iPad only, no free trial listed, adult scoring only, and almost no App Store ratings since the redesign, so there's little public feedback.

Pick it if: you'd rather pay once than subscribe and want video models for every word.

4. Score 4 Articulation

Score 4 Articulation, developed by an SLP, turns word-level drill into four-in-a-row. Each turn is a production; tap the word to hear a model and a counter tracks repetitions. It covers R (initial, vocalic and blends), S, L, SH, CH, J and voiceless TH, and two players can work on different sounds. It cites massed-practice research in its listing.

Pricing: free with the SH sound; R, S and L are $5.99 each, CH and J $3.99, TH $2.99, or $19.99 for the remaining set, per the App Store listing. It's rated 5.0 from 21 ratings (October 2026).

Limits: seven sounds, word level only, no profiles or saved data, Apple only.

Pick it if: you need a cheap way to get a lot of /r/ or /s/ tries in.

5. Articulation Teacher

Articulation Teacher is for parents of children ages 1 to 8, and it teaches the parent as much as the child. Each of its 20 sound sets (early sounds like B, P and M through later ones like R, R blends and TH) comes with a video of a speech therapist demonstrating the cues, five activities to try away from the screen, printable lists and five short games for initial, medial and final positions.

Pricing: the B sound is free; all sounds are $29.99 a year, or $7.99 per sound, per its FAQ. It's rated 4.7 from 213 ratings on the App Store and 4.4 from 158 reviews on Google Play (October 2026).

Limits: word level only, no recording or progress tracking, and no updates in 2026 so far.

Pick it if: you're a parent of a young child and want to learn how to cue a sound before you practice it.

6. Apraxia Farm (Smarty Ears)

Apraxia Farm is built for childhood apraxia of speech and severe speech sound disorders. It moves from single sounds (with animated faces and an optional camera mirror) to single words to two- and three-word combinations, organized by syllable shape from CV and VC up to four syllables. The adult scores every production, and reports break results down by consonants, vowels and syllable structure, with recordings to listen back to. Up to four players can work on different goals.

Pricing: the iPad app is $34.99. It's also an activity inside Smarty Ears Online, which runs in a browser at $29 a month or $240 a year with a 14-day trial.

Limits: the iPad app's last App Store update was in May 2019, so the web version is the safer choice now. It's a specialist tool, not general articulation practice.

Pick it if: your child's SLP is treating apraxia and wants syllable-shape practice at home.

What about Speech Blubs?

Speech Blubs is popular (4.6 from 59K App Store ratings in October 2026) but it isn't an articulation program. It's video modeling for ages 1 to 8, aimed at getting young children talking, at $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year per the Speech Blubs FAQ. If your child is past first words and working on specific sounds, the apps above fit better. Our AI speech therapy apps roundup covers it in more detail.

How to choose

  • Match the level. A child who can't yet say the sound alone needs isolation and syllable work (Articulation Station Hive, Apraxia Farm). A child who has it in words needs sentences and conversation.
  • Decide who judges. Every app here except Speech Therapy Magic relies on an adult to judge each word. Automatic scoring helps when practice happens unsupervised, within the limits our guide to apps that score a child's pronunciation explains.
  • Check devices first. Three of these six are Apple-only, and Apraxia Farm's iPad app is too unless you use the web version.
  • Look at total cost. A one-time $49.99 app, a $29.99 yearly app and a $79.99 to $120 yearly subscription cover very different amounts.
  • Add games for motivation. Our roundup of speech therapy games for kids covers ways to keep practice fun.

FAQ

What is the best articulation app?

For automatic feedback on any device, Speech Therapy Magic. For the fullest hierarchy on an iPad, Articulation Station Hive. For a one-time purchase, Articulate Plus.

Is Articulation Station still free?

No. The free Classic app with per-sound purchases is no longer sold. Articulation Station Hive is a subscription with a 14-day trial.

Is there a free articulation app?

Partly. Score 4 Articulation's SH sound and Articulation Teacher's B sound are free, and most paid apps have a trial.

Are there articulation apps for Android?

Articulation Teacher is on Google Play, and Speech Therapy Magic runs in an Android browser. Articulation Station Hive, Articulate Plus and Score 4 Articulation are Apple-only.

Can an app tell if my child says a sound correctly?

Somewhat. Speech Therapy Magic scores each sound, but by its own benchmark it often misses distortions. Treat any score as a prompt to listen, not a verdict.

Whichever you pick, ask your child's SLP which sound, position and level to practice, and set the app to exactly that.
