Speech Therapy Games for Kids (The Best Ones for Home and Sessions)

Speech practice runs on repetition, and repetition is the part kids push back on. A good game hides fifty productions of /s/ inside a maze, a board game or a story, so the child keeps going after a worksheet would have lost them. The catch is that "speech therapy games" covers everything from full online libraries to a single four-in-a-row app to quiz templates you fill in yourself.

This roundup is for parents doing home practice and SLPs planning sessions or teletherapy. We compared each option from the vendor's own site and app store listing, checked in October 2026. Our pick is Speech Therapy Magic, because it pairs its games with pronunciation scoring and keeps a record of every attempt, for less than $10 a month.

Here's the TLDR (prices checked in October 2026):

  1. Speech Therapy Magic (our pick): Best for home practice that scores each sound and reports back. Browser, $9.99/month or $79.99/year, 7-day trial.
  2. Ultimate SLP: Best for SLPs who screen-share games in teletherapy. 100+ online games, $12.95/month.
  3. Boom Cards: Best for a huge marketplace of articulation decks. Free plan for 5 students; decks cost extra.
  4. Articulation Station Hive: Best for structured articulation with game-style activities on Apple devices. From $7/month (Parent, yearly).
  5. Score 4 Articulation: Best for a cheap, high-repetition board game on later sounds. Free SH board; other sounds $2.99 to $5.99.
  6. Speech Blubs: Best for toddlers and preschoolers just starting to talk. $14.99/month or $59.99/year.
  7. Articulation Teacher: Best for parents who want guided games plus coaching videos. B sound free; $29.99/year.
  8. Wordwall and Baamboozle: Best for free DIY games you build around your own word lists.

1. Speech Therapy Magic

Speech Therapy Magic runs its games library in any browser, on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or smartboard, with nothing to install. The site lists 13 games developed with its clinical lead, Lori B. Levy, M.A., CCC-SLP. For articulation, Speech Cats (ages 4 to 10) has two cat characters, Milo and Boots, carrying the practice. For language, Level Up covers synonyms, antonyms and idioms (ages 7 to 13), and Maze Quest moves a child through a maze by answering comprehension and inferencing questions (ages 6 to 12). Social Scenes and Social Spark handle conversation and emotional regulation, and there's a listening game where a narrator reads every question aloud.

What sets it apart from the other game libraries here is the microphone. Its pronunciation practice gives each word a 0 to 100 score with a breakdown of which sound slipped and what it sounded like instead, and every play and attempt is logged to the child's profile by sound. An SLP can build a practice deck in Magic Studio and send it home by six-digit PIN, and the child plays without an account.

Pricing: one plan, $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, after a 7-day free trial with no card, per its pricing page. It includes every game, 3 student profiles (extras $4.99 a month, up to 10) and 5,000 scored attempts a month.

Limits: there's no free plan, and games sit behind the login, so there's no free play after the trial. It's browser-only, with a native app listed as coming soon. Thirteen games is a smaller library than Ultimate SLP or Boom Cards. And its own scoring benchmark says distortions such as a lateral /s/ often score as correct, so an adult should still listen. Our full Speech Therapy Magic review covers the rest.

Pick it if: you want games, feedback and a progress record in one place, at home or in sessions.

2. Ultimate SLP

Ultimate SLP, created by Lori Kleindienst, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a web library built for SLPs to screen-share in teletherapy. It advertises "100+ Online animated and interactive games with 500+ built-in card decks," including Color By Speech, build-a-pizza and build-a-snowman games, Feed Frosty, Beaver Bop and a game show. You pick card deck targets, and articulation covers "any speech sound in any word position." Up to 6 players can play, each on different goals, which suits groups.

Pricing: $12.95 a month or $139.92 a year after a 14-day free trial, per Ultimate SLP's site. A subscription is for one user; groups get a quote.

Limits: it doesn't describe recording, speech scoring or data tracking, so you take your own data. There's no parent plan and no app. We compared it with other SLP materials sites in our SLP subscriptions comparison.

Pick it if: you run teletherapy and want a big, no-prep game library to share on screen.

3. Boom Cards

Boom Cards is a marketplace and player for self-checking digital "decks" made by educators and SLPs, with "more than 500,000+ decks across every subject." For articulation you buy or find decks per sound: examples on its store include an /s/ articulation game deck for $3 and a 60-card mixed /r/ deck for $4.50, and free decks exist too. Students play in a browser or the iPad and iPhone app, and FastPlay pins let them join without logging in.

Pricing: the free Limited plan serves up to 5 students; Core is $29.99 a year for up to 30 students with IEP reports; Premium is $49.99 a year or $6.99 a month for up to 150, per Boom's pricing page. Decks are bought separately.

Limits: quality, sounds and levels vary from seller to seller, and self-checking only applies to taps and drags, not to how a word was said. It's built for educators rather than parents. See our Boom Cards alternatives guide if you're weighing it up.

Pick it if: you want the widest choice of ready-made articulation decks and don't mind assembling them.

4. Articulation Station Hive

Articulation Station Hive from Little Bee Speech is a full articulation program rather than a game collection, but much of it plays like one: matching games at three sizes, syllable spinners, rotating sentences, rhyming stories and three interactive conversation scenes (Ocean Adventure, Farmyard Fun, Fairytale Fantasy). It runs from isolation to conversation across consonants, vowels and clusters, with recording and adult scoring in every activity. The Pro plan runs group sessions of up to 6 students on different sounds.

Pricing: Parent is $10 a month or $7 a month billed yearly (2 students), and Pro is $15 a month or $10 a month billed yearly, with a 14-day trial, per Little Bee's pricing page. App Store prices are slightly different. The old free Articulation Station app with per-sound purchases is no longer sold.

Limits: Apple devices only, with no Android, web or Chromebook version, and one device at a time per membership. An adult judges each production; there's no automatic scoring.

Pick it if: you're on an iPad and want the games to sit inside a proper articulation hierarchy.

5. Score 4 Articulation

Score 4 Articulation is four-in-a-row where every turn is a production. Tap a word to hear a model, say it, and a counter tracks repetitions, with stars every 10. It covers seven later sounds: R (initial, vocalic, blends), S, L, SH, CH, J and voiceless TH. Two players can each pick a different sound, which works for mixed groups and teletherapy on a Mac.

Pricing: free with the SH board; R, S and L are $5.99 each, CH and J $3.99, TH $2.99, or $19.99 for the remaining set, per its App Store listing.

Limits: word level only, seven sounds, Apple only, and no saved profiles or data beyond the in-game counter.

Pick it if: a child working on /r/ or /s/ needs volume and loves a quick board game.

6. Speech Blubs

Speech Blubs is a parent app for ages 1 to 8 with "over 1,500 activities," built on video modeling: kids watch other kids say a word and copy them, with face filters, stickers and themed sections like Early Sounds, Animal Kingdom and Mouth Gym. A speech recognition feature pops a star when the app hears the word said correctly. It's on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Pricing: $14.99 a month or $59.99 a year after a 7-day trial, per the Speech Blubs FAQ. One subscription covers every child in the family.

Limits: it's an early speech and language app, not a structured articulation program, and it has no SLP caseload tools or desktop version.

Pick it if: your child is a toddler or preschooler and the goal is more words, not cleaner /r/.

7. Articulation Teacher

Articulation Teacher, from SpeakEasy Community, is built for parents of children ages 1 to 8. Each of its 20 sound sets has a video of a speech therapist showing the cues, five activities to do away from the screen, printable word lists and five in-app games: Name It, Splat, Sound Check, Space Match and Silly Voices. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Pricing: the B sound is free; everything else is $29.99 a year or $7.99 per sound, per its FAQ.

Limits: word level only, no recording or progress data, and its last update was in 2025.

Pick it if: you're a parent who wants to learn the cues yourself and play simple games around them.

8. Wordwall and Baamboozle: free games you build yourself

Neither is a speech product, but SLPs use both to turn a word list into a game. Wordwall has templates like spin the wheel, speaking cards, match up and open the box; a community search for "articulation" showed 1,319 results. Basic is free for 3 activities of your own; Standard is $7.20 a month or $57.60 a year. Baamboozle runs team quiz games from one screen, which works for group sessions. Basic is free; Baamboozle+ is $7.99 a month or $59.88 a year. You judge every production yourself, and quality depends on who made the game.

How to choose

  • Start with the goal. Clear sounds: Speech Therapy Magic, Articulation Station Hive, Score 4 Articulation or Boom decks. First words: Speech Blubs. Language and social goals: Speech Therapy Magic or Ultimate SLP, plus our social skills games roundup.
  • Decide who listens. Most games need an adult to judge each word. If practice happens when you can't sit beside your child, automatic feedback matters; our guide to apps that score a child's pronunciation explains what that feedback can and can't catch.
  • Check your devices. Chromebook or Android household? Rule out the Apple-only apps.
  • Count repetitions, not minutes. A game that gets 50 productions in ten minutes beats a prettier one that gets 10.
  • Ask your SLP. They can tell you which sounds and levels to play at home. Our list of apps for practicing speech at home has questions to ask.

FAQ

Are there free speech therapy games?

Yes. Boom Cards has a free plan for up to 5 students and free decks, Score 4 Articulation's SH board and Articulation Teacher's B sound are free, and Wordwall and Baamboozle have free tiers for games you make. Speech Therapy Magic and Ultimate SLP offer free trials, not free plans.

What are good articulation games for home?

For a parent, Speech Therapy Magic gives feedback and keeps a record, Score 4 Articulation is a cheap way to get repetitions on later sounds, and Articulation Teacher teaches you the cues.

Which speech therapy games work in teletherapy?

Browser-based ones you can screen-share: Ultimate SLP is built for it, and Speech Therapy Magic, Boom Cards, Wordwall and Baamboozle all run in a browser.

Can a game replace speech therapy?

No. Games add practice between sessions. A licensed SLP decides what to target and how.

What age are speech therapy games for?

It depends on the game. Speech Blubs and Articulation Teacher start at age 1, Speech Therapy Magic is designed mainly for ages 3 to 12, and Ultimate SLP covers preschool through high school.

Pick one game your child will ask for again tomorrow. That's worth more than five they play once.
