OpenAI, the company behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT, announced today that it will launch the GPT Store next week. The store will allow developers and enthusiasts to publish customized AI assistants called GPTs for others to use.

GPTs, or Generative Pre-Trained Transformers, are versions of ChatGPT that have been tailored for specific purposes. For example, a math tutor GPT could help students learn calculus, while a productivity GPT might handle scheduling meetings. The key benefit of GPTs is that anyone can create them without needing to code.

"We believe the most incredible GPTs will come from builders in the community," said OpenAI on their official GPT page. "Whether you're an educator, coach, or just someone who loves to build helpful tools, you don't need to know coding to make one and share your expertise."

For GPT creators to publish their assistants in the GPT Store, they will need to ensure their creations comply with OpenAI's updated usage policies and brand guidelines. Creators will also need to verify their identities before listing a GPT.

Once listed in the store, GPTs will become searchable and may climb leaderboards that highlight the most popular and highest-quality offerings. OpenAI also plans to spotlight standout GPTs across categories like education and productivity.

In addition to individuals, the company revealed that enterprise customers like Amgen, Bain, and Square have already started using internal GPTs tailored for their businesses.

The launch of the GPT Store represents OpenAI's latest move to democratize AI and involve more people in steering its development.

"Involving the community is critical to our mission of building safe AGI that benefits humanity," said the company. "It allows everyone to see a wide and varied range of useful GPTs and get a more concrete sense of what's ahead."
