AI has the potential to revolutionize the way we make money... especially digitally. By leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, you can automate and optimize tasks to maximize your earnings. Of course, an AI like ChatGPT is only as advanced as the data it was trained on, but the potential of a specific AI is only as good as the user that prompts it.

To truly reap the benefits of AI tools, you need to have a clear understanding of your goals and how to effectively use these tools to achieve them. With the right strategy and mastering the art of prompt engineering, you can use AI tools like ChatGPT to increase your online income by either expanding upon or by creating a business.

Won't AI Replace Human Jobs?

Okay okay, to be fair – they just released a Chatbot. The robot revolution hasn't started yet.

All jokes aside, the recent advancements in the Artificial Intelligence field have been nothing short of phenomenal. With the announcement of ChatGPT, developers have scrambled together tons of awesome tools with the resources currently available. There's been a lot of online speculation about saving your job from ChatGPT. I mean, what is school even worth anymore?

Some college tuition prices have dropped due to skepticism about the value of higher education. In the job market, business owners would much rather use various programs on their computers than hire people for roles like customer service, copywriting, etc.

Yes, AI technology has the potential to replace certain jobs, but we're not at the point where we can fully rely on machines to replace the flexibility and creativity of humans.

The best employees are going to take advantage of AI, rather than let themselves become consumed by the wave of replaceability. These employees will soon understand how best to leverage AI to stay marketable. ChatGPT provides an excellent introductory opportunity to merge your professional skills with the help of an AI. I'd argue if you know how AI works, you can use it to optimize your workflow, develop new skills, and even leverage it to get a salary bump,

So how can you leverage tools like ChatGPT to make some extra cash? Here are 4 examples of how you can leverage ChatGPT in your writing in order to make money online:

How To Improve & Sell Your Writing using ChatGPT

Writing is a very interesting skill to have. Everyone can write but not everyone can actually write. We are not at the point where you can use a singular AI tool to produce great content, research, or copywriting, but ChatGPT can help you make your writing even better.

With the right prompts, the AI bot can provide you with ideas and inspiration that not only helps you create better content, but also offers new insights into the process that could potentially save you time in both the short and long term. You can sell this improved copywriting as a service and make a great profit.

You have to figure out what kind of writing you actually want to sell. There are many different types of writing-for-hire services that include writing services like

Social Media Posts & Product Descriptions – Difficulty: 2/10

Money Potential: $

Create engaging and shareable social media posts for businesses or individuals to use on their social media accounts. Offer to manage a company's social media presence and create a content calendar to keep their followers engaged. This one might require a small portfolio (or evidence you've done this before) but the actual work can nearly be automated when using ChatGPT.

Writing compelling product descriptions that accurately and effectively describe a product's features and benefits is another good way. Offer to write product descriptions for e-commerce websites or physical stores to help customers make informed purchasing decisions. With a bit of prompt engineering, you can take existing product copy & make it a lot more engaging and creative.

Blog Posts for SEO – Difficulty: 4/10

Money Potential: $$

You can Write engaging and informative blog posts on a variety of topics, such as personal finance, health/wellness, travel, or fashion. You can offer to create a series of posts for a company's blog to attract new readers and drive traffic to their website. This one requires you to carefully plan and produce helpful or entertaining content but can eventually make you more income than a full-time job. Good copywriters are very hard to find, and companies will pay big bucks if you can write solid articles. You can use ChatGPT to create an article outline, brainstorm topics, and generate introductory and conclusion paragraphs. You'll still need to prompt it with the factually correct information you want in your article, but you can definitely merge the two. If you're trying to leverage blogging to start your own content agency, here's everything you need to know. You could freelance articles between $30-200 depending on the content technicality.

Do NOT just rely on ChatGPT to produce 1-shot blog articles. It's only a matter of time until Google docks all AI-produced content. Some argue blogging isn't even worth it anymore, but that's simply not true. Good content is going to be key in 2023. You can obviously leverage ChatGPT and content writing together, but don't just prompt and paste!

Produce Website Content – Difficulty: 5/10

Money Potential: $$

Create compelling web content that is optimized for search engines and designed to engage and inform readers. This one is not easy! Offer to write SEO-optimized website copy, landing pages, or product descriptions to help businesses improve their online presence. It has to be good though!

Ebook Author or Ghostwriter – Difficulty: 7/10

Money Potential: $$$

You can write and self-publish ebooks on a topic you are passionate about, such as cooking, DIY projects, or self-improvement. Offer to write ebooks as a ghostwriter for others who want to share their knowledge or experiences with a wider audience. This one will most likely require a larger portfolio to get off the ground if you're trying to do it for someone else. If you're trying to do it for yourself, you'll need to know about the topic you'll be writing about (but you can use AI to boost yourself). This one will probably require most work offline as you can't really use ChatGPT to produce books (yet) – but you can develop an entire guideline plan.

Look at this entire outline... ChatGPT made this entire thing:

Technical Writing – Difficulty: 8/10

Money Potential: $$$$

Write clear and concise technical documents, such as user manuals, instruction guides, or technical reports. Offer to write technical content for companies in a variety of industries, such as software development, engineering, or manufacturing.

I'd suggest picking one of these skills and starting with it. You won't be able to become a freelancer overnight, but you can start honing in your skills & practicing prompt engineering to tweak the type of copy you're producing. Once you've narrowed down your skill, figure out what medium you want to sell this content on

Tools like Jasper have one-shot blog post tools that create a general outline, but I've since seen better blogs produced with ChatGPT. With the ChatGPT prompt, you could tweak the style and syntax. If you want to rephrase already existing writing, just paste it & tell it what to do. The level of sophistication from ChatGPT is currently way ahead of any industry copywriting tools on the market. And for now, it's free to use. Here's a sample of what both showed me:

Script Writing For TV, Film, and Theatre – Difficulty: 9/10

Money Potential: $$$$$

Writing scripts for film, TV, or theater can be a highly lucrative and rewarding career for talented and creative writers. However, it can also be very challenging and competitive. You have to be somewhat creative to make it in this field, but if you are a creative writer then ChatGPT can be used to help you come up with great ideas.

To succeed in this field, you'll need to have a deep understanding of storytelling, character development, and visual storytelling. You'll also need to be able to write in a variety of formats, including feature-length films, television pilots, and stage plays. Again, you can learn most of these skills online and refine them over years, but this isn't really a side hobby – more of a way to take your script writing to the next level.

To break into the industry, you'll need to network with other writers and industry professionals, attend writing workshops and conferences, and submit your work to contests and other opportunities. You may also need to write several spec scripts (scripts written on speculation without pay) to showcase your talent and build your portfolio.

Once you have established yourself as a professional writer, you may have the opportunity to work on high-profile projects, such as major motion pictures or popular TV shows. This can be a highly lucrative career, with successful writers often earning six-figure salaries or more. However, the path to success can be long and difficult, and many aspiring writers may struggle to find success in this competitive field.

To use generative writing AI like ChatGPT to help with script writing, you could start by providing it with relevant information about the story you want to tell, such as the characters, setting, and plot. ChatGPT can then use this information to generate ideas and suggestions for dialogue and scenes, which you can use as a starting point for your own writing.

For example, you could provide ChatGPT with information about your characters, such as their names, backgrounds, and personalities, and ask it to generate ideas for how they might interact with each other in a given scene. ChatGPT can also help you come up with ideas for dialogue, conflicts, and plot twists, which can be useful for developing the overall structure of your script.

While ChatGPT can't replace the creativity and skill of a professional writer, it can be a useful tool for generating ideas and helping you to overcome writer's block. You can explore new possibilities for your story and find new ways to engage and entertain your audience.

Where to Sell Yourself?

To effectively sell writing services online, it's important to have a clear understanding of your target audience and the best ways to reach them. One way to do this is by using websites that are specifically designed for freelance writers and other creative professionals, such as Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer. These websites provide a platform for writers to showcase their skills and services, and connect with potential clients who are looking for high-quality content.

In addition to using specialized websites, it's also important to use a variety of mediums to showcase your writing and reach a wider audience. This could include writing sample articles and blog posts, creating a portfolio of your work, and using social media to promote your services and engage with potential clients. By using a combination of these mediums, you can effectively showcase your writing skills and attract clients who are looking for high-quality content.

When it comes to the type of writing you offer, it's important to focus on areas where you have expertise and can provide value to clients. This could include only writing for specific industries, such as healthcare, finance, or technology. By focusing on areas where you can excel and provide value, you can effectively sell your writing services online and build a successful freelance writing business. This isn't going to happen overnight, but will be worthwhile.

You might run into a few barriers to enter the freelance writing market. Some of these include:

  • Competition from established writers: The freelance writing field is competitive, and many established writers have built up a loyal customer base and a strong reputation. As a new writer, it can be difficult to differentiate yourself and compete with these established writers.
  • Difficulty in finding clients: Finding clients as a freelance writer can be challenging, especially if you are just starting out and don't have a portfolio of work to show potential clients. This can make it difficult to get your first few clients and build your business.
  • Difficulty in pricing your services: Pricing your writing services can be difficult, especially if you are new to the field and don't have a good understanding of market rates. If you charge too much, you may not get any clients, but if you charge too little, you may not make enough money to sustain your business.

To overcome these barriers, you'll have to differentiate yourself. What makes you different? If it's nothing, find something. Master it. Here's a few examples:

  • Build a portfolio of work: Building a portfolio of your best writing samples can help you overcome the barrier of competition from established writers. By showcasing your writing skills and abilities, you can demonstrate to potential clients that you are a capable and competent writer.
  • Use social media and networking to find clients: Using social media and networking can help you overcome the barrier of finding clients. By building a presence on social media and connecting with other writers and potential clients, you can increase your visibility and showcase your writing skills.
  • Research market rates and price your services accordingly: Researching market rates and pricing your services accordingly can help you overcome the barrier of pricing your services. By understanding what other writers in your field are charging, you can price your services in a way that is competitive and fair.

Overcoming these barriers in the freelance writing field requires a combination of hard work, persistence, and strategic thinking. By maximizing steps to differentiate yourself, you have a way higher chance of overcoming these barriers. If you're feeling discouraged, an author with 1000 pieces of content had to start with 0. Start now and don't look back!

Conclusion

The use of AI tools like ChatGPT can provide a ton of creative ways to leverage your writing skills and to make money online. By using ChatGPT to help with freelance writing tasks, you can offer valuable services to clients and earn a good income. It's not going to be easy, but will pay off if you can combine your skills with the power of a generative AI. By mastering the art of prompt engineering and understanding your goals, you can effectively use AI tools like ChatGPT to improve your writing and make it more engaging and compelling. With the right strategy and a willingness to adapt, you can use AI tools like ChatGPT to your advantage and succeed as a professional writer in the digital world.
