Reading Time: 8 minutes

Instantly has been our daily driver for close to four years now — roughly 8,000 emails a month across 20+ domains — & we still point almost everyone who asks toward it. This isn't a "here's why Instantly is secretly bad" article. We use it, we recommend it, we bought our first annual plan on a Black Friday deal & have renewed every year since. But "what should I switch to" is a question we get constantly, usually for a specific reason, not because someone read a bad review somewhere. Maybe it's LinkedIn touches you need in the same sequence. Maybe you're a two-person shop & even Instantly's entry plan is more than you need right now. Maybe lead-finding, not sending, is your actual bottleneck. So here are the seven alternatives that actually come up in those conversations, & what each one is genuinely good for.

Here's the TLDR: the right alternative depends on WHY you're leaving Instantly, not on some abstract "best tool" ranking. Want LinkedIn or multichannel sequences baked in? Look at Lemlist or Reply.io. Mainly optimizing for the lowest entry price? Saleshandy, Woodpecker & Mailshake all undercut Instantly's cheapest plan. Running an agency & want native white-label sub-accounts? Smartlead's the closest structural match. Is finding & verifying leads your actual constraint, more than sending them? Snov.io folds that into the bill. And if none of that describes you — if you just want unlimited mailboxes, real deliverability infrastructure & a lead database in one place — that's still Instantly, & our full review covers why. Below are the seven, in the order they tend to come up.

Smartlead - The Closest Like-for-Like

Smartlead is the closest structural twin to Instantly we've found — same core bet: unlimited email accounts on every plan, so scaling means adding domains & mailboxes instead of paying per seat. Per their pricing page, the entry Base plan runs $39/mo for 2,000 stored contacts & 6,000 emails/month, scaling to an Unlimited Smart tier at $174/mo with no contact cap (annual billing saves 17%). Where it pulls ahead of Instantly for agencies specifically is white-label & sub-account management — native client-facing sub-accounts baked into the core product, not reserved for a premium bundle the way Instantly's $555/mo Agency tier handles it. We haven't run client accounts through it ourselves, but for agencies managing several client sending operations at once, it's worth a serious look.

Right for you if: you run an agency & want native white-label sub-accounts without paying for Instantly's top-tier bundle.

Lemlist - Multichannel With LinkedIn Baked In

We actually ran Lemlist for about six months before switching to Instantly, so this one's personal. We liked lemwarm (their warmup tool) & the interface is genuinely more colorful & pleasant to use day to day than most of this category. Where it got expensive was scaling: the Multichannel plan — the one you need for LinkedIn touches — is priced per user at $109/mo monthly ($87/mo billed annually), so adding teammates or client seats compounds fast. The email-only plan is cheaper at $69/mo monthly ($55/mo annually) with 50,000 emails/month included, but you lose the multichannel piece entirely. We left mainly because the per-seat math didn't scale with an agency adding domains & clients constantly. Our full Instantly vs Lemlist breakdown goes deeper on that story.

Right for you if: you need LinkedIn & email in one sequence & aren't scaling team seats.

Reply.io - A Full Sales Engagement Suite

Reply.io was one of the tools we evaluated (alongside MixMax) when we first went shopping for cold email software, & we passed mainly over limited mailbox capacity relative to what we needed to scale. It's grown since — Reply.io is now a genuine sales engagement platform, not just a cold email sender. Per their pricing page, Starter runs $59/mo per user for email sequencing, & Business jumps to $99/mo per user for full multichannel (LinkedIn, calls & SMS as add-ons). They've also added an AI SDR product starting around $500/mo that runs outreach semi-autonomously — a different category from what Instantly does entirely. It's more full-featured than a pure sender, & the tradeoff is per-seat pricing again, plus more complexity than you need if inbox-to-inbox cold email at volume is really all you're after. Full comparison: our Instantly vs Reply.io breakdown.

Right for you if: you want a full sales engagement suite — calls, LinkedIn & AI SDR — not just email.

Saleshandy - The Budget Unlimited-Mailbox Option

Saleshandy is the budget pick here. Starter runs $36/mo monthly ($25/mo annually) for 2,000 active prospects & 6,000 emails/month, & every plan includes unlimited email accounts — the same structural idea as Instantly, just cheaper at the entry tier (Instantly's cheapest sending plan starts at $47/mo). Mailboxes — their managed inbox infrastructure — are billed separately, from roughly $3/mailbox/month depending on commitment length. The catch, per Saleshandy's own help docs: while you can connect unlimited mailboxes, how many you can actively run warmup on is capped by plan, & they don't publish those caps anywhere we could find. That's worth knowing before you build a 20-domain operation on top of it. For a lean team just getting started, though, it's a genuinely cheaper entry point — see our full Instantly vs Saleshandy comparison.

Right for you if: you're just starting out & want the lowest entry price with unlimited mailbox connections.

Woodpecker - Simplicity, Usage-Based Pricing, EU Roots

Woodpecker prices itself completely differently — instead of tiered plans, you pay per 100 "contacted prospects," about $7/100 on monthly billing (the smallest preset, 500 contacted prospects, works out to $35/month; annual billing brings that down further). Every plan includes unlimited email accounts & unlimited team members, & it's built by a Polish company with a strong EU/GDPR-conscious user base — worth knowing if that matters to your team or clients. Feature-for-feature, Woodpecker also ships with less than Instantly by design — fewer settings screens, fewer moving parts. If Instantly's growing feature set (AI reply agents, a lead database, A/Z testing) feels like more than you actually need & you just want reliable sending & warmup, that pared-down approach has real appeal. More in our Instantly vs Woodpecker comparison.

Right for you if: you want dead-simple software & usage-based pricing, especially if you're EU-based.

Mailshake - Email Plus an Actual Dialer

Mailshake is another simplicity play, & the only option here with a real built-in phone dialer. Starter is $29/mo monthly ($25/mo annually) but capped at one sending address & 1,500 emails/month — not viable at any real volume. The plan that actually matters is Email Outreach at $49/mo monthly ($45/mo annually): unlimited sends, two addresses. Sales Engagement at $99/mo monthly ($85/mo annually) adds ten addresses plus five phone numbers with unlimited dialer minutes to North America — genuinely useful if your outreach is email plus cold calling rather than email alone. It doesn't have Instantly's unlimited-mailbox model, so scaling sending volume means moving up tiers (& paying per seat) rather than just adding domains. Full breakdown: our Instantly vs Mailshake comparison.

Right for you if: cold calling is part of your outreach motion & you want it in the same tool as email.

Snov.io - Lead Finder & Sender in One Bill

Snov.io's pitch is combining lead-finding & verification with the sender in one product, so you're not paying for Instantly plus a separate Hunter.io or Apollo subscription on top. Starter is $39/mo (about $29.25/mo billed annually) for 1,000 credits & up to 5,000 recipients a month, with unlimited follow-up emails & seats included — no per-user tax. It's a genuinely different structural pitch from Instantly's split between sending plans & separately-priced lead database credits (Instantly's own Growth Credits run $47/mo for 1,500 credits, on top of a sending plan). Where it falls short is warmup depth & deliverability tooling at real scale — Snov's roots are as a prospecting tool that added sending, while Instantly built sending & deliverability first. See our Instantly vs Snov.io breakdown for the full picture.

Right for you if: finding & verifying leads is your bigger pain point than sending infrastructure.

So, Which One Should You Actually Switch To?

If you made it this far & none of these felt like an obvious slam dunk over Instantly, that's honestly the accurate takeaway. We've run a couple of these ourselves (Lemlist for six months, & we evaluated Reply.io early on) & keep coming back to Instantly for the unlimited-mailbox model — scaling means adding domains, not seats. That said, if your reason for leaving matches one of the seven above, go with the tool that solves your actual problem, not the one we happen to use. Regardless of what you land on, best of luck & happy emailing!
