We've paid for Instantly every year since a Black Friday deal four years ago – but every one of those years, the thing we paid for was sending. Our lists come from Clay, stitched together with other enrichment & verification steps, not from a database bundled into our email tool. So when Instantly rolled out Lead Finder – a 450M+ contact B2B database on its own credit system, sitting inside the platform we already log into daily – the honest question wasn't "is this good?" It was "would we actually swap any of our Clay spend for this?"
Here's the TLDR: if you're already paying for Instantly to send & you don't want a second subscription just to find people to email, buying credits for Lead Finder is a genuinely reasonable, low-effort move – you'll trade some accuracy for convenience, but it's real convenience. If you already have a working list-building pipeline (Clay, a dedicated data provider, whatever), keep it – a generic credit-gated database isn't going to out-match a workflow tuned to your specific ICP, & that's the camp we're in. If cost-per-lead is your only variable, run the numbers below against Apollo & Saleshandy too, because the cheapest option changes depending on how much volume you actually need.
What Lead Finder Actually Is
Inside the app it's called SuperSearch; on the marketing site it's Lead Finder – same feature. You get 13 filters to narrow the 450M+ contact database: job title (plus management level & department), location, industry & keywords, employee headcount, revenue, lookalike domains, uploaded domain lists, open job listings, technologies detected on a company's site, buying/growth signals, recent news, funding type, & company name (with a "one lead per company" toggle). There's also an AI natural-language search bar – type "sales managers at Series B SaaS companies in the US" & it builds the filter set for you.
The email-finding itself runs on waterfall enrichment: click "Find email" & Instantly checks its own database first (1 credit if it finds a verified match), then chains through partner providers – BetterContact, ContactOut, Findymail, IcyPeas, LeadMagic, Prospeo, & Wiza – until one returns a verified hit or all seven come up empty. Partner-sourced emails cost more (2 credits for most, 4 for ContactOut), & enrichment beyond the email runs around 0.5 credits. Nothing's charged if no match verifies, which is fair, but it makes budgeting a little unpredictable month to month. Exports push into your workspace's existing contact-upload limits (the same 1,000 / 25,000 / 100k caps tied to your sending plan) or straight out to HubSpot, Apollo, Lemlist, or a plain CSV.
Pricing - The Real Difference
Lead Finder sells on three standalone credit plans: Growth Credits at $47/month for 1,500 credits, Supersonic Credits at $97/month for 5,000–7,500 credits, & Hyper Credits starting at $197/month for 10,000 up to 200,000 credits. There are also three bundles combining sending with credits: Starter at $94/month (5,000 emails, 1,000 contacts, 1,500 credits), Scale at $194/month (100,000 emails, 25,000 contacts, 5,000 credits – the "most popular" tier, adding the AI Reply Agent, Unibox & advanced deliverability), & Agency at $555/month (500,000 emails, 100,000 contacts, 10,000 credits, plus private server infrastructure). Annual billing runs roughly 10% off the bundles.
Do the credit math & price-per-credit drops as you scale: Growth works out to about 3.1 cents, Supersonic lands between 1.3 & 1.9 cents depending where you fall in that 5,000–7,500 range, & Hyper is around 2 cents at its floor. Since 1 credit buys an Instantly-sourced email but a partner-sourced one runs 2 to 4 credits, real cost per lead is closer to 3 to 12 cents depending on tier & how often the waterfall falls through to a partner. Saleshandy's Lead Finder – covered in our Instantly vs Saleshandy breakdown – prices at $49/month (annual) for 2,500 credits & $79/month for 4,000, both around 2 cents per credit, charging only for results that verify. Its database is bigger on paper (852M+ contacts vs 450M+), though size alone doesn't mean better match quality for your list. Apollo doesn't sell credits standalone – they're bundled into per-seat pricing, roughly $49/seat/month annually with a "fair use" allowance around 10,000 emails a month, pencilling out under half a cent per lead if you use the full allowance. But that's the price of a whole sales platform (dialer, sequences, light CRM), not a database – see our Instantly vs Apollo comparison for the seat-pricing breakdown.
| Plan | Price | Credits / Allowance | ~Cost Per Credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instantly Growth Credits | $47/mo | 1,500 credits | ~3.1 cents |
| Instantly Supersonic Credits | $97/mo | 5,000–7,500 credits | ~1.3–1.9 cents |
| Instantly Hyper Credits | From $197/mo | 10,000–200,000 credits | ~2.0 cents (floor) |
| Saleshandy Lead Finder | $49/mo (annual) | 2,500 credits | ~2.0 cents |
| Saleshandy Lead Finder | $79/mo (annual) | 4,000 credits | ~2.0 cents |
| Apollo Basic (bundled) | ~$49/seat/mo (annual) | ~10,000 emails/mo, fair-use | ~0.5 cents* |
*Apollo's number isn't apples-to-apples – it's the price of an entire per-seat sales platform, not a standalone lead database, so it only looks cheap if you were going to pay for the seat anyway.
Where The Credits Math Doesn't Add Up
We didn't run Lead Finder against a live client campaign, so we're not inventing our own accuracy numbers here. Salesforge ran a hands-on 30-day test & reported roughly 85% verification accuracy on the emails returned, with the rest bouncing or invalid, & a visitor-to-contact match rate swinging between 22% & 35% depending on the search – & flagged that credit pricing makes per-lead cost "less predictable," which tracks with the math above, since you don't know upfront whether a search hits Instantly's own database at 1 credit or falls through to a 4-credit partner call. TrulyInbox's review, pulling from aggregated G2 & Reddit feedback rather than independent testing, flagged the pattern we've seen called out on other lead databases too: outdated addresses, mismatched job titles, & higher bounce rates on raw, unfiltered exports. None of that makes Lead Finder bad – it makes it newer & less battle-tested than a dedicated data provider, which tracks given Instantly built its business on sending, not data. Credits also don't roll over month to month, so a slow month is credits you already paid for & lost.
Why We Still Bring Our Own List
To be straight about it: we haven't run our day-to-day prospecting through Lead Finder. Our lists come out of Clay, where we stack multiple enrichment & verification providers per field & tune the thresholds ourselves, instead of accepting whatever a single vendor's waterfall hands back – we wrote up that exact process in how to validate email addresses with Clay. At 8,000 emails a month across 20+ domains for multiple clients, building precisely-targeted lists ourselves beats a flat credit price on a generic database.
That's not a knock on anyone who hasn't built that stack yet, though. A real Clay waterfall takes an actual afternoon (or several) to set up, & if you don't have the time or volume to justify it, paying $47–97/month for credits inside a tool you already have open is a perfectly rational trade – even knowing accuracy will land in the 80s-percent range instead of a curated in-house pull.
Which One Is Right For You?
Buy Instantly credits if you're already sending through Instantly & don't want a second bill or a second tool just to find people to email – especially if you're small enough that a Growth or Supersonic credit pack covers your monthly volume outright, or you're already eyeing the Scale bundle for more sending headroom anyway & the credits come along for free. Check the exact sending-side numbers in our Instantly pricing breakdown before you pick a tier.
Keep bringing your own list if you already have something working – Clay, a dedicated provider, in-house sourcing – because a pipeline tuned to your ICP will consistently beat a generic credit-gated database on match quality, & the 3-to-12-cent-per-lead math stops mattering once you're comparing it to a system you already trust.
Look at Apollo or Saleshandy instead if the data side is your actual bottleneck rather than a convenience add-on: Apollo if you want a dialer & light CRM bundled with the database in one per-seat product, Saleshandy if you want a bigger headline contact count at a comparable per-credit price & don't mind running a different brand for sending versus data.
Our full take on the sending platform itself is in the Instantly review if Lead Finder isn't the piece you're actually deciding on. Regardless of what you land on, we hope this helped you figure out whether the credits are worth it for your setup – best of luck & happy emailing!
