My Thoughts & Experience Using Jenni AI (AI Writing Assistant)

I tested Jenni AI to see how it holds up as an AI-writing tool. While it can be great to help assist writers that need outlines & suffer writers block, the quality of writing & paraphrasing doesn't appear to be as good as ChatGPT. It definitely has its use cases though.

Jenni AI is an advanced AI writing assistant system that helps you produce content faster. We have a complete review if you want to read how it actually works. I just want to highlight my testing today.

The success story of Jenni AI is pretty inspiring. It's been a variation of the same product since 2016, and finally saw success after the rise of ChatGPT.

Here's some of the best features that I tested & thought was worth sharing.

AI Autocomplete

The AI Auto Complete feature helps you complete your text by showing some suggestions line by line. Once you write a heading, you can check the Outline Builder box and it will suggest various subheadings.

To test it, I wrote “10 AI Writing Tips to Pass AI Detection Tools and Plagiarism Checker,” and several subheadings appeared.

Custom Styles and Tones

You can choose from different heading formats (H1-H4) and set your text to Numbered List or Bullet List. The text editor allows you to make your text bold, italic, or underline. You can also upload an image or add a URL. Pretty standard for a writing editor, but nice to have a smooth document editor that combines AI.

You can also choose from 4 Content Types (Freelflow, Blog, Email, and Essay) and 5 Content Tones (Academic, Bold, Friendly, Persuasive, and Professional).

Text Transformations

Jenni offers transforms to text by allowing you to choose from five different AI Commands: Paraphrase, Simplify, Shorten, Expand, and Translate.

Each command has five rewriting modes – Academically, Boldly, Casually, Friendly, and Persuasively. Very similar to the content tones.

Aside from English, Jenni can translate text into five languages – Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

More importantly, Jenni AI allows you to choose where to accept its suggestion or to see other alternatives. The best part is that you don’t have to pay for the changes you didn't accept.

In-Text Citations

Jenni offers 4 different citation styles – APA 7, MLA 9, Harvard, and IEEE.

You can cite your text in two ways – manual or automatic. For the automatic mode, simply enable the Auto Citation toggle switch, highlight text, and then, press the Citation button. For the manual mode, click the Custom Citation button.

AskJenni

Jenni who? AskJenni is the dedicated AI assistant who will try to answer any question. In short, Jenni is a chat box to enter a prompt just like you do in ChatGPT. I asked her about Philippine history. Here are her responses:

Plagiarism Checker

The Plagiarism Check tool is for paid users only. Once you click the Plagiarism Checker button, a popup will invite you to hit the Run Check button or Cancel. You’ll also see this note, “Almost all text written by Jenni is unique. For the small percentage of accidental plagiarized text, you may run a plagiarism check.”

Now, here’s the funny part:

Jenni AI vows to help you supercharge your next research paper but admits that there could be an “accidental plagiarized text.” Does it mean they can't guarantee that their work is unique and original? Shouldn't it be part of their purpose? So why not improve the tool instead of inviting users to pay for it? A bit odd.

Paraphrasing Feature

I decided to test Jenni AI’s paraphrasing feature on different tones - Academically, Boldly, Casually, Friendly, and Persuasively. Here are the results:

Personally, I wasn't impressed. I tested the same sentences and prompts using the free version of ChatGPT. And as you can see, the results are much better:

So That's It

Jenni as a tool is pretty easy to use, and it can give you good/accurate results (sometimes). However, if you're planning to use it for your research paper, I don't think it's the best choice. While some of its suggestions can be helpful, they're far from perfect. You might end up spending a lot of time trying to find better words or phrases.

Apart from its quality issues and weird testimonials touched upon in our review, Jenni doesn't seem to have any contact information on its website or facebook. The only way to reach them is through Discord.

On Tiktok, you may see lots of videos promoting the tool, but it also seems like many of these people are part of Jenni AI's Influencer program.

So, would I recommend Jenni to students who are working on a research papers? I’m afraid, not. Instead, I suggest using ChatGPT to help generate your outlines (just don't be tempted to have it write the entire thing for you – I guess that's where Jenni would replace it).

If you just need help with simple articles, Jenni could definitely work for you. It may also help beat writer's block if you have tight deadlines. I'd recommend trying out Jenni AI's free version to ultimately see for yourself.
