OpenAI Releases ChatGPT Guide For Teachers 

OpenAI has recently released Teaching with AI, a ChatGPT guide for teachers in efforts to provide helpful and productive suggestions on using ChatGPT in educational institutions.

The guide elaborately explained the functions of ChatGPT based on real stories of how educators used the tool to maximize teaching and accelerate student learning.

In a recent tweet, OpenAI has officially launched the guide for teachers who use ChatGPT, including information on the efficacy of AI detectors and its limitations.  

Consequently, it showcased how teachers were using ChatGPT in their classrooms, namely for:

• Role playing challenging conversations - a professor encourages her students to use the tool to explore information in a conversational setting which helps students understand materials with “added nuance and a new perspective.”
• Building quizzes, tests, and lesson plans from curriculum materials - a professor recommends teachers to use ChatGPT as an assistant in crafting quizzes, exams, and lesson plans.
• Reducing friction for non-English speakers - a head of research at a university encourages non-English speaking students to use ChatGPT for translation assistance, conversation practice, and improvement in English writing.
• Teaching students about critical thinking - a computer science teacher educates students about responsible use of AI tools and the internet in general. 

All of their experience involving ChatGPT highlights the tool’s underlying benefits in educating students despite the preconceived notions and misconceptions against its usage.

Furthermore, the guide also provided example prompts from Ethan Mollick and Lilach Mollick from Wharton Interactive, that teachers may use to:

• Come up with lesson plans
• Create effective analogies, explanations, and examples
• Help students learn by teaching
• Create an AI tutor

In addition, OpenAI reminds users that these prompts may not always produce correct information and may not be appropriate for all classrooms – ChatGPT’s AI-generated answers are only a starting point.
